Prince maintains his royal status with two shows grossing more than $1 million each. Live Nation promoted both his Dec. 13 performance at Rexall Place in Edmonton, Alberta, and his Dec. 19 show at Tacoma (Wash.) Dome. The glittery performer brought more than 10,000 people to Rexall Place, and 12,167 fans cheered at Tacoma Dome. Prince just wrapped up over a year of touring.
Jay-Z and Kanye West continue to claim ‘the throne’ with three shows at Staples Center in Los Angeles. The duo made appearances on both December Hot Tickets charts. The Staples Center dates grossed a total of $5,104,455 with more than 42,000 attendees. The rap icons ended their tour Dec. 18 at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
Cirque du Soleil started the year strong with four shows on the Hot Tickets chart. Dralion and Quidam both charted with performances at two venues each. Tickets for all of the shows started at around $30. Dralion moves to Colisée Pepsi in Quebec City, Jan. 3-8, while Quidam will play General Motors Centre in Oshawa, Ontario, Jan. 4-8.
Holiday shows dominated our smallest-capacity category. “The Nutcracker” played four shows at Long Beach (Calif.) Terrace Theater Dec. 17-18. Durham (N.C.) Performing Arts Center presented “A Christmas Carol” for two shows on Dec. 9, collectively attended by more than 5,000 people; and Gospel Christmas played Arlene Schnitzer Concert Hall in Portland, Ore., three times Dec. 9-11. Tickets for all of the holiday productions started at $24-$27.
