Dolly delights fans in 2008.
Dolly Parton is the belle of this week's Hot Tickets report, charting in our two largest categories. The blonde country crooner played one show Nov. 29 at Allphones Arena in Sydney and performed three times at Brisbane (Australia) Entertainment Centre, all promoted by Chugg Entertainment. Over 20,000 fans came to see the Brisbane shows, which grossed nearly $4 million. These dates wrapped up Parton's Australian tour.
Andrea Bocelli held the top spot in our largest category for the second week in a row with his performance at St. Pete Times Forum in Tampa, Fla., Dec. 4. The gross for this show also exceeded $2 million. Bocelli played his last show of the year Dec. 11 at Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif.
Jay-Z and Kanye continue their ascension to 'the throne' with their tour. They showed up on this week's chart for the Nov. 26 performance at The Palace of Auburn Hills (Mich.), which brought out 14,097 fans. Though their Nov. 22 show at Bell Centre in Montreal had 3,000 less attendees, it grossed over $100,000 more. Perhaps reduced ticket prices at the more recent show had an effect on the final gross. The duo played Staples Center in Los Angeles Dec. 12, and move to HP Pavillion in San Jose, Calif., tonight, Dec. 14.
One-time only and holiday events held strong on this week's Venues Today Hot Tickets. Even with only 2,545 in attendance, the 2011 ARIA Awards at Allphones Arena in Sydney grossed nearly $1 million. Ticket prices went up to $498.57. Schools Spectacular, which features the artistic contribution of 3,500 public school students from New South Wales, brought over 25,000 people to Sydney Entertainment Centre. The event was promoted by the Department of Education & Communities. KISS 108 FM Jingle Ball 2011 jingle bell-rocked its way to a $628,775 gross. The yearly event took place at Tsongas Center in Lowell, Mass., Dec. 8.
HOT TICKETS is a weekly summary of the top acts and ticket sales as reported to VT PULSE. Following are the top 20 concerts and events, the top 5 in each seating capacity category, which took place between Nov. 23-Dec. 14.
