Wil Gorman is heading back to school.
Gorman, who graduated from Southeast Missouri State University in Cape Girardeau in 1994, is heading back to his alma mater as director of the university's Show Me Center.
"I not only went to school at Southeast Missouri State University, but it's where I started working in this business as a student at the Show Me Center," said Gorman.
He brings more than 20 years of facility management experience to his new position. Most recently, Gorman served as stadium manager for TD Ameritrade Park for Metropolitan Entertainment and Convention Authority in Omaha, Neb. He has also worked as senior director of Brewers Enterprises in Milwaukee, Wis., and manager at Tempe (Ariz.) Diablo Stadium Complex.
Other roles include time as a retail manager with Sportservice at Busch Stadium in St. Louis and spring training ticketing manager for Major League Baseball's California Angels Spring Training. He was also GM of the Tempe (Ariz.) Rafters in the Arizona Fall League.
The Show Me Center opened in 1987 as a joint undertaking between the city and the university. Former Director David Ross retired from the 7,000-seat venue earlier in 2012.
Gorman said his immediate plans are "to go out and introduce myself to the promoters, clients and partners on campus and in the community."
There will be a settling-in period where he evaluates the overall facility to understand how they do business. Show Me Center has done well with bookings for more than two decades and, long term, Gorman hopes to maintain the standard of success.
"As Show Me Center enters its 25th year of operation, my long-term goal is to keep the facility operating at the high level it's operated at over the past 24 years, while looking to continue to expand the offerings at Show Me Center," added Gorman.
